Dr. Mohammad Parvin
I am the founding Director of the Mission for Establishment of Human Rights in Iran (MEHR Iran). MEHR was evolved from a committee that was formed in 1997 under the name of "Iranian Committee for Establishment of International Criminal Court (ICEICC).”
MEHR is a network of individuals committed to expose and stop human rights violations in Iran. Its objectives are:
Bringing the human rights violation in Iran to the attention of world community.
Documenting the human rights violations in Iran and defending the prisoners of conscience.
Collaborating with the international human rights organizations including Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch.
Encouraging the Iranian-American community to participate in the democratic processes of the U.S. and advocate the relation between the two nations rather than the U.S. relation with the abuser of Iranian people.
Seeking justice for the victims of the Islamic Regime of Iran through international avenues.
Promoting awareness of the International Criminal Court and other international avenues to seek justice.
Promoting awareness of Iranian Community to seek the abolishment of capital punishment.
Providing counseling and necessary help for the victims of torture.
I have a Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, England, United Kingdom. I was a Professor at Aryamehr University in Iran before being forced to leave the country in November 1982. After the establishment of IRI, I along another four colleagues at Aryamehr University founded the Democratic Faculty Center that very soon became a network encompassing all Iranian Universities. These centers opposed the human rights violation of the Islamic Regime and organized widespread strikes against the closure of the universities, which was done under the disguise of Cultural Revolution. Like many other grass roots movements, these centers were eventually crushed by the regime. Many were arrested, some executed, and many including myself had to leave Iran.
Since coming to the US, I have been involved in teaching and consulting. I was a full time faculty member at California Institute of Technology for four years before moving to Aerospace Industry. Since then, I have been teaching as Adjunct Professor at California State University and work as an Aerospace Specialist at aerospace industry.
I have been very active in pursuing MEHR goals and have used all possible avenues to promote the cause of human rights in Iran. These include:
Speaking regularly at Seminars, conferences, and panel discussions organized by various organizations in the US, Canada, and Europe. These events include Speeches given at the University of Stockholm, University of Toronto, Vancouver University, Washington University, Seattle, and George Washington University.
I was invited to a White House briefing on Iran on July 20, 2006 with Deputy National Security Advisor for Global Democracy Strategy, Elliott Abrams and Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Nicholas Burns and presented his proposal on the US / Iran relations under the title of “The Third Option.”
Speaking at MEHR’s monthly panel at Community Room of Santa Monica Mall, the auditorium of Center for Enquiry West, and Monterey Hill Restaurant.
Publishing papers, and articles on human rights violation in Iran.
Hosting a regular weekly Radio show on human rights, on Radio Voice of Iran (KRIC) from1997 to 2007.
Hosting a regular weekly TV show on human rights, on PARS TV in Los Angeles.
Being interviewed by KPFK Radio, Voice of America, Los Angeles Times, PBS, and Cox on various occasions regarding Iran.
Organizing and participating in International seminars to address the violation of human rights and discuss the international avenues to seek justice.
MEHR has organized annual conferences in Los Angeles since year 2000. During the conference that was held on September 2003, the filing of a lawsuit against the Islamic Regime of Iran through CJA was announced. The case was finally tried at the Federal Court of the United State on February 2, 2007.
I have testified at the court as an expert witness on human rights violation in Iran as well as the power structure of the Islamic Regime in Iran. Judge John Bates made a judgment in favor of plaintiff, Hossein Nikbin, against the Islamic Regime of Iran, Iranian Ministry of Intelligence and Security, and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
