Statue Of Iranian Commander Soleimani Torched Hours After Being Unveiled

RFE
https://www.rferl.org/

A statue of Iranian Major General Qassem Soleimani in Shahrekord, Iran, which was unveiled earlier this week, but then set alight hours later.

A statue erected to honor top Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani has been torched by unknown assailants hours after it was unveiled in southwestern Iran, domestic media reported on January 6.

Soleimani, who headed the elite Quds Force of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps, was killed on January 3, 2020, in a U.S. drone strike at Baghdad airport.

Earlier this week, a statue to honor him was unveiled in the southwestern Iranian city of Shahrekord. But it was set on fire in the evening, Iranian media reported.

"This treacherous crime was carried out in darkness, just like the other crime committed at night at Baghdad airport," when Soleimani was killed, Shahrekord Friday Prayers Leader Mohammad Ali Nekounam said in a statement published by the semiofficial ISNA news agency.

Iranian authorities have unveiled several sculptures dedicated to Soleimani since his assassination two years ago, and his portraits dot the landscape across Iran.

State broadcaster IRIB condemned the latest attack as an "insulting" act, that comes as Iran marks the second anniversary of Soleimani's killing.

Soleimani was considered a main architect of Iran's Middle East military strategy and his assassination brought the United States and Iran close to a military conflict. Tehran retaliated by launching a missile strike targeting U.S. forces in Iraq.

Iran state TV streaming site targeted with dissident message

AP
https://apnews.com/

Image
In this screenshot from video, a purported dissident message is seen from an online account calling itself "The Justice of Ali" that reportedly played overtop of an Iranian state television streaming feed on Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2022. A streaming website that features Iranian state television programming has acknowledged suffering technical issues amid reports that dissident hackers played an anti-government message on the platform. The caption at the bottom of the image in Farsi reads: "The regime has tasted our blows and it will taste it again."

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — A streaming website that features Iranian state television programming has acknowledged suffering technical issues amid reports that dissident hackers played an anti-government message on the platform.

Telewebion said it suffered “infrastructure” irregularities Tuesday and suffered an archive failure, without elaborating on the cause.

The problems came as a video message circulated online claiming to be from a self-described group of hackers called “The Justice of Ali" in Farsi. In the video, which Farsi-language news networks abroad say played on the streaming platform, a masked man appears and a muffled voice says Iran's government “will no longer silence us.”

“We’ll burn hijabs. We’ll burn their pictures and propaganda posters,” the man says. “We will break their idols. We will reveal their palaces so that the people can punish them.”

“The Justice of Ali” did not immediately respond to a request for comment via an account it used in an earlier conversation with The Associated Press. In August it released footage showing grim condition at Iran's notorious Evin prison it claimed it obtained through a hack.

The video comes just ahead of commemoration ceremonies for Iran's 1979 Islamic Revolution this month. It also follows an apparent hack Thursday that saw multiple channels of Iran’s state television broadcast images showing the leaders of an exiled dissident group and a graphic calling for the death of the country’s supreme leader.

The incident Tuesday potentially marks the latest in a series of embarrassing cyberattacks against the Islamic Republic, as world powers struggle to revive a tattered nuclear deal with Tehran. Other attacks, which Iran has blamed on Israel, have targeted its nuclear program.

In October, an assault on Iran’s fuel distribution system paralyzed gas stations nationwide, leading to long lines of angry motorists unable to get subsidized fuel for days. An earlier cyberattack on Iran’s railway system caused chaos and train delays.

Iran ‘set to explode’ while Biden unfreezes $29 billion for regime

Social discontent in Iran has risen by 300 percent in the past year according to an IRGC document obtained from Edalat-e Ali.

Jerusalem Post
https://www.jpost.com/

Image
Members of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) navy participate in a joint exercise called the 'Great Prophet 17', in the southwest of Iran, in this picture obtained on December 22, 2021.

An activist hack organization revealed a highly sensitive Iran Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps document last week asserting that Iranian “society is in a state of explosion” because of the crippling sanctions imposed on the nation due to its illicit nuclear program.

The US government news organization Radio Farda obtained the document from Edalat-e Ali (Ali's Justice), the whistleblower entity, that has also secured confidential documents and video footage about the torture of Iranian prisoners.

The US government news organization Radio Farda obtained the document from Edalat-e Ali (Ali's Justice), the whistleblower entity, that has also secured confidential documents and video footage about the torture of Iranian prisoners.

Radio Farda said it could not verify the authenticity of the document beyond the sourcing of Ali's Justice.

Image

Mohammadi noted that “several shocks” in recent months have “shaken public trust” in the regime of president Ebrahim Raisi, who is listed as a US-sanctioned person for his role in several mass murders, including the massacre of at least 5,000 Iranian political prisoners in 1988.

Radio Farda reported that “Mohammadi referred to soaring inflation, including hikes in the prices of food items, energy, and cars. He also noted the sharp declines in stock prices.”

According to Radio Farda, “the leaked document includes notes from a November 2021 task-force meeting chaired by Brigadier General Hossein Nejat, a senior IRGC commander and deputy head of Sarallah, a key IRGC base that oversees security in Tehran.”

Omri Ceren, the national security advisor for US Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, on Saturday tweeted “The Biden administration is giving Iran a nuclear weapons arsenal,” with a link to a Daily Mail article that declares:” Biden REMOVES some Iran sanctions imposed by Trump - including unfreezing $29B in bank accounts overseas - in bid to return to Obama-era deal that three negotiators have resigned over.”

In addition to officials from US-classified terrorist organization IRGC at the meeting, the IRGC document noted that the meeting of the Working Group On the Prevention Of A Livelihood-Based Security Crisis was attended by the Basij militia, the intelligence bodies, and the Tehran Prosecutor's Office.

The Basij militia is a volunteer force frequently used to crush demonstrations against the political and economic corruption of the theocratic state.

The Jerusalem Post reported in January that the deputy interior minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran,Taghi Rostamvandi, outlined factors during a speech that could shake the foundations of the theocratic state.

The Islamic Republic News Agency, or IRNA, the regime-controlled news agency of the Islamic Republic of Iran, reported that Rostamvandi warned that Iranians are seeking with greater frequency "fundamental changes in the country," and a secular government and way of life.

Revolts against the clerical state have punctuated Iran since the 1979 Islamic revolution, including the widespread Green movement protests in 2009 and massive unrest in 2019.

Iran to Regain up to $130.5 Billion

National Review
https://www.nationalreview.com/

Image
Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei speaks during a meeting via video conference in Tehran, Iran, February 17, 2022.

The imminent agreement with Iran is no deal at all; it’s a steal.

Iran is simply cashing in on the weak resolve of U.S. negotiators. Tehran loses little with the deal’s nuclear limits; its breakout time goes from five weeks to under six months (I’m afraid that’s no sigh of relief). Yup, that’s our side of the bargain. Iran’s is much sweeter; as the Editors wrote last week:

The agreement Biden is reportedly contemplating imposes no restrictions on what Iran may do with its windfall — not on terrorism, support for terrorist proxies, ballistic-missile development, hostage-taking, and the rest of its atrocious menu.

But what exactly is the number value of that “windfall”? Saeed Ghasseminejad, a senior adviser on Iran and financial economics at the Foundation for Defense of Democracy, estimated the price tag to be in the hundred of billions:

When the administration lifts sanctions, Tehran will immediately gain access to an estimated $86.1 billion to $130.5 billion in foreign assets that currently are not fully accessible and readily available.

Most of the assets were cut off from the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) when Trump blocked Iranian banks from SWIFT in 2018. The CBI is also sanctioned for supporting the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Quds Force, and Hezbollah. Since 2018, those assets have been frozen in foreign bank accounts. Despite U.S. sanctions, Ghasseminejad reports that those assets have grown since 2018 for a variety of reasons, one being a lack of enforcement of sanctions on Iran:

Iran’s neighbors and China have not been keen on enforcing trade sanctions against the Islamic Republic, so Iran continued to accumulate export revenue in foreign accounts it could not fully access

China isn’t the only culprit; as I’ve written before, under the Biden administration, the U.S. has been lax in enforcing its own sanctions, overlooking oil trade between Iran and Venezuela.

Tehran won’t just regain its overseas assets, it will also be cashing in on record-breaking oil prices. Indeed, the Iranian oil minister, Javad Owji, said that as soon as a deal is struck in Vienna, Iran can achieve “maximum oil production capacity in less than one or two months.”

Ghasseminejad’s most concerning observation is not the payoff itself, but what Iran intends to do with it:

Tehran likely will also invest a significant portion in its military, particularly the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. In addition, the regime will likely double down on its support for its terrorist proxies across the region, such as Hezbollah in Lebanon, the Houthis in Yemen, and various militant groups in Iraq.

With the Biden administration intending to lift terrorism sanctions, at least Iran isn’t violating the rules.
A day you haven't learned a new, is a day lost!

IRI Gassed Iranian Female Soccer Fans Ticket Holders!

Postby Atusa Qajar » Fri Apr 01, 2022 8:49 am

IRI Gassed Iranian Female Soccer Fans Ticket Holders!

These things only happen in Iran! They sold 2000 soccer (football) game tickets to the women to watch the national team qualification game for the world cup. Women took a day off, spent lots of money and went to see the game, then they blocked them to go in to the stadium! Afterwards, when they protested, security, pepper sprayed them in the face!

Now, FIFA is debating about banning the Iranian National Team in the world cup finals! In Iran, the right hand doesn’t know what the left hand is doing. Chaos in every branch of government and every corner of the society including soccer. What a disaster!

A while back a female soccer fan set herself on fire! Imagine in a deprived Islamic society where exists barely any fun, they even ban women from watching soccer games!

It is very clear that women are 2nd class citizens even as soccer fans! Read and watch videos:

Biden's Iran deal would create a foreign policy disaster for US
and hand Xi, Putin, Khamenei a major victory

No deal is better than this bad deal

FOX
https://www.foxnews.com/

New Iran Deal a 'glide path' to a nuclear arsenal for Iranians: Amb. Dermer
Former Israeli Ambassador to U.S. Ron Dermer explains why the new Iran nuclear deal is dangerous and risks the safety of America and its allies.

Imagine a deal cut with the world’s leading sponsor of terrorism, Iran, co-brokered by Vladimir Putin’s Russia and the Chinese Communist Party. One that would pave the way for Tehran to develop nuclear weapons and also supercharge its violence across the Middle East.

America would be foolish to take it. But if President Joe Biden doesn’t have a change of heart, he may try to sell just such a deal to the American people.

Before he hands a major victory to the Ayatollah Khameni, Vladimir Putin, and Xi Jinping and presides over another foreign policy disaster, the president should walk away from the negotiating table.

After months of discussions, the Biden administration is on the verge of reaching an agreement with Iran to replace the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, signed by President Barack Obama in 2015. President Donald Trump pulled America out of that deeply flawed deal in 2018.

Rightly so. Under the JCPOA, Iran paused, but did not end, its nuclear program in exchange for $1.7 billion in cash and another $150 billion in sanctions relief. It was great deal for the regime in Tehran, but a bad one for America.

Its proposed replacement would be worse.

The arrangement, orchestrated by Russian and Chinese intermediaries, would be a financial windfall for Tehran. It would lift Trump-era sanctions and release billions of dollars in assets frozen by the United States and our allies. Iran’s haul could be up to $130.5 billion.

President Biden is also offering to remove the foreign terrorist organization designation of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, the Iranian military’s primary instrument of exporting bloodshed and an organization responsible for killing more than 600 American service members in Iraq. A recent missile attack near the American consulate in Erbil, in northern Iraq, was the work of the IRGC.

It gets worse: the administration is also offering to lift sanctions on a slate of Iranian organizations and individuals. Among them is Hossein Dehghan, a politician and IRGC operative who planned the 1983 bombing in Lebanon that killed 220 Marines and 21 other Americans.

And what would America get out of this deal? Iran’s window to develop the uranium necessary for a nuclear weapon will be delayed from five weeks to six months, and America’s ability to stop development in the future would be severely undermined.

An agreement that allows Iran to realize its nuclear ambitions is dangerous enough, but relaxing sanctions and removing the IRGC’s designation as a terror group would pour gasoline on the fires already raging across the Middle East.

It will fund Hezbollah’s destruction of Lebanon and open up an offensive against Israel on its norther border. It will pay for the rockets Hamas fires into Israel’s cities and the riots it foments on Israel’s southern border with Gaza. And it will enhance support for the Houthis’ war in Yemen and attacks on Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates. Iran-allied militias in Syria and Iraq continue to regularly launch strikes against American troops and personnel in the region. The new deal goes well beyond nuclear weapons and will finance more of these attacks across the region.

The terms, which are already being described as a significant victory by Russia and China, will provide a beachhead for Putin and Xi to contest and even supplant American leadership in the Middle East. Conveniently, the agreement allows Rosatom, an energy company owned by the Russian government, to move forward on a $10 billion contract to build two nuclear reactors in Iran.

It is not the intent of these negotiations that is objectionable. Make no mistake, an atomic Iran is a threat to the security of the entire world.

This deal, though, fails to prevent Tehran’s nuclear breakout while also enhancing its ability to spread terror around the region and self-dealing America a strategic geopolitical defeat. No deal is better than this bad deal.

The president came into office promising a "longer and stronger" deal with Iran, but this is weaker and shorter. And despite earlier promises to the contrary, the administration has failed to adequately consult with Congress during its negotiations, repeating the mistakes of 2015, and failing to follow the law.

If the president wants to truly prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons and win bipartisan support, he should leverage, not lift, sanctions and tie any agreement to ending Tehran’s exportation of terrorism and violence around the globe. The President should then submit that agreement to the Congress as a treaty for ratification.

Short of that, this is a dangerous deal America should not make and a future Republican administration must immediately reverse any agreement that falls short.

Iranians have staged street protests after authorities cut subsidies for imported wheat, a move that has led to a dramatic increase in the price of bread. Videos posted to social media sites on May 11 purportedly showed protesters marching through the cities of Dezful and Mahshahr in the southwestern province of Khuzestan. Amid the rallies, authorities have imposed a near-total shutdown of mobile and home broadband data in parts of the province.

Iran protests break out across the country amid skyrocketing food prices

FOX
https://www.foxnews.com/

Protests broke out in Iran Thursday after the government cut subsidies for food, sending prices through the roof as authorities brace for more unrest in the following weeks.

In videos shared on social media, protesters can be seen marching through Dezful and Mahshahr in the southwestern province of Khezestan, chanting "Death to Khamenei! Death to Raisi!" referring to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has promised to create jobs, lift sanctions, and rescue the economy.

But talks to revive Iran's tattered nuclear deal with world powers has remained deadlocked. Iranian families have seen their purchasing power rapidly diminish.

Iranian state media has not publicly addressed the protests, but they have been covered by the National Council of Resistance of Iran, an opposition group. Footage shared by the NCRI shows protesters setting fire to a Basij military base in Jooneghan, a city in the Central District of Jooneghan county.

"Every so often we see these types of protests in Iran. Each time it is under a different premise – the price of eggs, the price of gas, the price of bread, but the underlining message which is supported by the slogans heard throughout the demonstrations is the same; they are protesting the entirety of a brutal regime," Lisa Daftari, Iran expert and editor-in-chief of the Foreign Desk, said in a statement.

"It is also evident in the fact that these protests are no longer just contained to Tehran, the capital city, and other urban areas. We are seeing protests throughout the country in urban and rural areas and throughout the very vast and diverse Iranian population."

Iran abruptly raised prices as much as 300% for a variety of staples such as cooking oil, chicken, eggs and milk on Thursday. Scores of alarmed Iranians waited in long lines to snatch up bundles of food and emptied supermarket shelves across the country in the hours before the price hike took effect.

Bakery worker Mojtaba Motallebi put bread packs in shelves at a bakery in Tehran, Iran, Wednesday, May 11, 2022.

Panicked shoppers raided stores and stuffed basic goods into large plastic bags, according to footage shared widely on social media. Lines in Tehran snaked out of grocery stores late Wednesday. On Thursday, Iran's currency dropped to a low of 300,000 rial to the dollar.

The scenes revealed not only deep anxiety gripping the country and frustration with Iran's leaders, but also underscored the staggering economic and political challenges facing them.

Food prices across the Middle East have surged due to global supply chain snarls and Russia's invasion of Ukraine, which both export many essentials. Iran imports half of its cooking oil from Ukraine, where fighting has kept many farmers from the fields.

Although Iran produces roughly half of its own wheat, it imports much of the rest from Russia. The war has added to inflationary pressures.

The government is trying to act swiftly to blunt the pain. Authorities have promised to pay every Iranian citizen some $14 a month to compensate for the price hikes.

As outrage over rising inflation surges online, Iranian authorities appear to be bracing for the worst. Internet monitoring group NetBlocks.org told The Associated Press that it was tracking internet disruptions at a "national scale" that "are likely to impact the public's ability to communicate."

Article 19, a global research organization that fights censorship, reported on Thursday that authorities appeared to have shut down almost all internet connectivity in cities across Khuzestan province.

Iran: Protests erupt in Dezful, continue across Khuzestan over rising prices

People in Dezful, Khuzestan province, southwest Iran, protesting high inflation and skyrocketing prices of basic goods – May 11, 2022

People in the city of Dezful in Khuzestan province of southwest Iran took to the streets on Wednesday night local time protesting rising inflation and skyrocketing prices of basic goods, including even bread. Their rallies included marching in the streets, blocking roads by setting tires on fire and chanting slogans, specifically targeting senior regime officials.

Regime authorities have reacted harshly by dispatching security and anti-riot units to the streets and disrupting internet access in various cities.

Protesters in Dezful were seen chanting:

“Death to Khamenei!,” specifically targeting regime Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

“Death to Raisi!,” referring to regime President Ebrahim Raisi

“We don’t want the mullahs’ regime!”

“Mullahs must get lost!”

“No fear! We’re all together!”

These protests in Dezful and other cities have been in response to a recent hike in the prices of flour and various types of bread, parallel to statements issued by regime officials that the prices of poultry, eggs, milk, dairy products, and cooking oil will increase from Thursday, May 12.

Authorities dispatched a large number of security forces to Dezful and across Khuzestan province to confront popular gatherings in various areas. In response, protesters began chanting, “Have no fear! We all stand together!”

And protests have continued despite incoming reports of security forces conducting nightly raids targeting the homes of identified protesters and activists in different cities of Khuzestan province.

There are also numerous reports of internet disruptions and complete blackouts for mobile devices, and severely slowed internet connections in numerous areas throughout Iran.

Netblocks, the international internet monitoring organization, confirmed these reports about temporary internet blackouts imposed on the Rightel internet service company. Other such mobile networks and fixed-line providers in Iran were also experiencing deterioration, according to the Netblocks report, adding that “slowdown may limit the free flow of information amid protests.”

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FSgR5K0XwAM ... name=small

The protests in Khuzestan province began last week. On April 26 state TV in Iran announced a five-to-seven-fold increase in the prices of various types of bread. The regime’s official IRNA news agency wired a report on May 4 emphasizing that “the only solution left is canceling all bread subsidies,” signaling an unbridled skyrocketing of bread prices across the board.

As a result, prices of various types of bread began to increase throughout Iran in an unprecedented manner. The price of sandwich buns jumped by 1,300 percent. People on social media were reporting the different price hikes, forcing the regime’s state media, such as the “Eslahat News” website on May 3, to acknowledge the fact that people can’t even purchase simple sandwiches as the bread has become far too expensive.

Ebrahim Sayami, a senior official of the regime’s Ministry of Economic Affairs and Finance, announced on May 5 that bread will be rationed, meaning each loaf of bread will be sold at 100,000 rials (around 35 cents). In fear of the resulting social backlash, there are reports claiming regime officials have denied any intentions to ration bread.

In a letter to the regime’s president, the Revolutionary Guards (IRGC) Basij paramilitary warned of possible protests over the prices of basic goods. “The society is not ready for sudden price hikes,” the text reads, adding such decisions can lead to social unrest.

This is the latest of such warnings by different regime officials and institutions. In November 2019, a sudden increase in the price of gasoline triggered a nationwide protest. The IRGC Basij played a key role in suppressing the uprising and murdering more than 1,500 protesters.

A senior member of the mullahs’ sanctuary in the city of Qom said on May 5 that if “skyrocketing prices are not brought under control, there won’t be a revolution. We should expect a revolt by the hungry; a revolt is far more dangerous than a revolution!”

At Least 22 Arrested In Iranian Protests Over Food Price Hikes

Iranians reacted to the expected price hikes by taking to the streets in several cities.

Iranian authorities have arrested at least 22 demonstrators protesting against price hikes in subsidized food staples in two cities in the southwest of the country.

President Ebrahim Raisi this week announced a series of economic measures, including cutting subsidies and increasing the prices of several staples, such as flour and cooking oil.

Iranians reacted to the expected price hikes by taking to the streets in several cities in the southwestern province of Khuzestan, the official government news agency IRNA reported on May 13, where the government has reportedly imposed a near-total shutdown of mobile Internet for the past week.

Amateur videos posted on social media showed protests in Dezful and Mahshahr, where protesters chanted against Raisi and Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Soaring Bread Prices Trigger Street Protests In Iran

Some reports suggested that security forces used tear gas to disperse the protesters.

Street protests were also reported in Andimeshk, the capital city of the western province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari.

IRNA said 15 people were arrested overnight in Dezful in Khuzestan, as well as seven others in the city of Yasuj in Kohgiluyeh-Boyerahmad Province in the south.

Demonstrators in the southern city of Izeh attacked shops and tried to set fire to a mosque, the report claimed.

Rallies also took place in other cities and in the Fashapuyeh district of Tehran Province, it added.

Speaking on May 9 on state television, Raisi pledged that the price of traditional bread, gasoline, and medicine would remain unchanged.

In order to compensate for the rise in prices, Raisi said direct payments equivalent to approximately $10 or $13 would be disbursed for two months for each family member of low-income households. Later, he said Iranians will be offered electronic coupons that would allow them to access a limited amount of subsidized bread.

Reports suggested that the price of cooking oil had almost quadrupled since Raisi's announcement, while the price of eggs and chicken nearly doubled.

Many Iranians are struggling to make ends meet amid a poor economy crushed by U.S. sanctions and years of mismanagement.

Iran protests spread as demonstrators demand change and cheaper food

FOX
https://www.foxnews.com/

The demonstrations 'are part of a growing trend of anti-regime protests' pressing for responsible and representative government, one expert says

Protests spread to more parts of Iran Friday, as ordinary Iranians demanded the government reinstate subsidies on food that have seen prices soar since they began earlier this week. Observers also note that the protests have taken on a pointedly more anti-regime tone in the last 48 hours.

Videos shared on social media show protesters shouting anti-regime slogans, and in two separate cases, attacking the offices of the much feared Basij paramilitary militia. Other images shown on The Foreign Desk website shows a red vehicle purportedly spraying protesters with an unknown fluid, possibly tear gas.

Protesters, showing no fear of retribution by the state security services have been heard shouting "Death to Khamenei! Death to Raisi!" referring to Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, who has promised to create jobs, lift sanctions, and rescue the economy.

Lisa Daftari, an expert on Iran and editor-in-chief of the news website The Foreign Desk, told Fox News Digital that the protests have spread to several more of Iran's 31 provinces including Khuzestan, Lorestan, Kurdistan, Isfahan, Kermanshah, Hamedan, Sistan, Rasht, Azerbaijan, Chaharmahal Bakhtiari and Shahrekord and Ardabil.

https://a57.foxnews.com/static.foxnews. ... ?ve=1&tl=1
Iran's new President-elect Ebrahim Raisi speaks during a press conference in Tehran, Iran, on Monday.

Daftari stated that, "In the past decade the Iranian people have done a wonderful job acting as citizen journalists to tell the world what the true plight of the Iranian people is, and how misrepresented their regime is in the mainstream media. While the Biden administration, similar to the Obama administration, is busy obfuscating the facts about a brutal and repressive regime that is not interested in changing its ways, the people of Iran are suffering. They are telling us their true stories."

The Associated Press, citing reports from Iran's state-run news agency IRNA, stated that some 22 protesters had been arrested since last night. The Iranian UN mission in New York did not immediately return Fox News Digital's request for comment.

As the protests continue the Biden administration is still seeking to rejoin the Iran Nuclear Deal, officially known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA.) While there is growing opposition in Congress to the U.S. going back to the deal, the administration is continuing to push for a return to it. The deal was signed by President Obama in 2015, and President Trump withdrew the U.S. from the deal in 2018.

In a week that saw two European citizens arrested on espionage charges in Iran, Reuters news agency reported Friday that a State Department official said that the U.S. appreciated the efforts being shown by the EU in its efforts to reinvigorate the deal. Negotiations have stalled in recent weeks.

https://twitter.com/ReutersIran/status/ ... ood-prices

Behnam Ben Taleblu, a senior fellow at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (FDD), and an expert on Iran told Fox News Digital the protests were part of a larger anti-government trend.

"It would be yet another mistake to view these protests as isolated or merely economic. They are part of a growing trend of anti-regime protests that use social, economic, and environment matters to make claims about their desire for responsible and representative government," he said.

He said the administration needs to take note of what's going on. "Just over a decade ago, some slogans chanted by Iranian protests about death to the Supreme Leader or in favor of Iran's past monarchial dynast would have been taboo. Now they are commonplace. Washington can ill afford to ignore this transition," he said.

Although Iran produces roughly half of its own wheat, it imports much of the rest from Russia. The war has added to inflationary pressures.

The government is trying to act swiftly to blunt the pain. Authorities have promised to pay every Iranian citizen some $14 a month to compensate for the price hikes.

The Democrats – Mullahs Boondoggle Nuke Deal 2.0 is a sham in pretense of being a necessity for the national security of America! The only sides who benefit from it are the Mullahs to become stronger, so they can reign longer; MIC to sell more arms to Arabs by holding Iran as the Big Boogeyman of the neighborhood; Deep State to gain more control; US global corporations to openly deal with the Mullahs; Iran Lobby billionaire supporters to make more money wheeling and dealing inside Iran, and indeed Democrat politicians to make more money being on the payroll of the Iran Lobby in USA.
