Iran Attacked US Embassy in Baghdad

IRI backed Iraqi Hezbollah invaded UA Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq. Hezbollah broke the gates and are inside the compound now.

This US embassy attack action was in retaliation for US air strikes in Syria and Iraq on IRI backed Hezbollah forces consisting of pro Iran Syrian Militia, Lebanese Hezbollah and Iraqi Hezbollah which itself was for retaliation by US against the IRI hostage taking and attacks on US interests, US citizens and US drones in the region.

Trump is not Muslim Hussein Obama, Clinton and Democrats. Trump hits back hard. This will not be another Benqazi. Trump as a non-interventionist try hard to keep US out of the conflict and endless wars overseas but if IRI keeps on pushing, then eventually Mullahs will be sorry.

The best solution is to support the Iranian Opposition and continue heavy sanctions against the IRI Regime of Mullahs.

The only good Mullah is a dead Mullah

Regime Change in Iran by all means possible

US presses Iraq to protect American personnel after embassy attack: ‘There will be no Benghazis’

Iraqi government struggling to deal with Iranian influence in country, Dan Hoffman says
Former CIA Station Chief Dan Hoffman reacts to protesters attacking the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad in response to retaliatory airstrikes from the Pentagon.

Trump administration officials and U.S. lawmakers turned up pressure on Iraq’s government to keep American personnel in the country safe, after a stunning assault on the embassy in Baghdad renewed concerns about the influence of Iran.

Dozens of Iraqi Shiite militiamen and their supporters breached the compound Tuesday, smashing a main door and setting fire to a reception area as protests raged over U.S. airstrikes over the weekend that killed members of the Iran-backed militia. President Trump accused Iran of “orchestrating” the attack, while defending the airstrikes as in response to an attack that killed an American contractor.

A U.S. defense official told Fox News that 100 Marines are being sent to the embassy to bolster security. A U.S. Apache helicopter gunship also flew over the embassy and dropped flares in a “show of force,” attempting to disperse the crowd. Defense Secretary Mark Esper later confirmed additional forces are being sent.

The storming of the compound represented a grave new challenge to the Iraq-U.S. relationship, as Iran competes for influence. Iraq has long sought to balance ties with both countries, but reports from the scene indicated Iraqi security forces did not initially stop protesters as they marched to the heavily fortified Green Zone following a funeral held for those killed in the U.S. airstrikes.

A U.S. official later told Fox News that "Iraqi security forces did participate" in protecting the embassy — and Trump made clear he expects Iraq to protect U.S. personnel.

“We expect Iraq to use its forces to protect the Embassy, and so notified!” Trump said in his tweet blaming Iran.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had separate phone calls with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi and President Barham Salih on Tuesday, in which he “made clear the United States will protect and defend its people, who are there to support a sovereign and independent Iraq,” State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus said in a statement.

Ortagus added that both Iraqi leaders “assured the secretary that they took seriously their responsibility and would guarantee the safety and security of U.S. personnel and property.”
Yet as news of the embassy clashes spread, the Iraqi National Security Council put out a statement instead condemning the U.S. airstrikes that preceded them.

“The Iraqi Government condemns this act and considers it a violation of Iraq’s sovereignty,” the statement said. “This is a serious violation of the rules of engagement of the Coalition forces, including the US forces, in carrying out operations without the approval of the Iraqi Government.”

The statement went on to say that the U.S. “relied on their own conclusions and political priorities, not the priorities as assessed by the government and people of Iraq.”

Pompeo defended American actions on social media Tuesday, stating that the U.S. “responded defensively to the Iranian proxy attack that killed an American citizen,” and wounded Americans and Iraqis.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., backed Trump in a Twitter thread, crediting the president for "acting decisively" and saying he's put the world on notice “there will be no Benghazis on his watch.” This referred to the 2012 attack on the U.S. compound in Libya in which four Americans were killed. The Obama administration faced heavy criticism both for the embassy’s vulnerability as well as conflicting statements regarding the nature of the attack and what led to it.

In his Twitter thread, Graham laid down the gauntlet, challenging Iraq to continue working with the U.S., insisting that it would be in their best interest.

“To our Iraqi allies: This is your moment to convince the American people the US-Iraq relationship is meaningful to you and worth protecting,” Graham said. “Protect our American personnel. You will not regret it.”

Both sides of the aisle called on Iraq to cooperate. Frequent Trump critic Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., called the storming of the embassy “deeply disturbing” and urged Iraq to do its part.

“The first priority is the safety of our personnel. Iraq has an obligation to protect them,” Schiff said.

The situation remains fluid in Baghdad. By early evening, protesters had set up tents outside the embassy where they said they intended to stage a sit-in. Dozens of yellow flags belonging to Iran-backed Shiite militias fluttered atop the reception area and were plastered on the embassy's concrete wall along with anti-U.S. graffiti.

A State Department official said in a statement later Tuesday that U.S. personnel are “secure” and affirmed there are no plans to evacuate the embassy, while disputing that there had been a “breach.”
The official also confirmed U.S. Ambassador Matt Tueller was not evacuated, despite “false” reports to the contrary, but was on previously scheduled “personal travel.”

“He is returning to the Embassy,” the official said. Calling on Iraq to protect facilities, the official said these “Iranian backed demonstrations in front of the U.S. Embassy should not be confused with the Iraqi protestors who have been in the streets since October to decry the corruption exported to Iraq by the Iranian regime.”

Esper said in a statement that the Pentagon and the State Department are working closely to ensure the safety of those at the embassy, confirming they are sending "additional forces" to support personnel at the scene.

He added: "As in all countries, we rely on host nation forces to assist in the protection of our personnel in country, and we call on the Government of Iraq to fulfill its international responsibilities to do so. The United States continues to support the Iraqi people and a free, sovereign, and prosperous Iraq."

Trump vows Iraq 'will not be a Benghazi' after Iran-backed embassy raid

FOX News
https://www.foxnews.com

Speaking to reporters just hours after dozens of Iran-backed Iraqi Shiite militiamen and their supporters broke into the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, President Trump on Tuesday night vowed that the situation "will not be a Benghazi" -- a pointed reference to the deadly 2012 embassy attack in Libya on the Obama administration's watch, after officials at the embassy had requested enhanced security for weeks.

"It's been handled very well," Trump said as he walked into New Year's Eve celebrations at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida. "The Marines came in. We had some great warriors come in; they did a fantastic job. They were there instantaneously, as soon as we heard. They came immediately. It's in great shape. This will not be a Benghazi. Benghazi never should have happened. This will never, ever be a Benghazi. ... As soon as we saw there was a potential for a problem, they got in."

Trump added: "Things are in great shape. ... I want to thank the Iraqi government. They really stepped up."

Iran, Trump said, "should want peace more than anybody," and any conflict "would go very quickly." But, Trump said he did not see such a fight materializing, even as he unequivocally pointed the finger at Iran for the embassy breach.

Meanwhile, multiple media outlets, including The New York Times, inexplicably opted to describe the embassy attackers simply as "Iraqi mourners."

Separately, Trump told reporters he was not worried about what he called Democrats' impeachment "hoax," pointing out that Ukraine's leader has said he felt no pressure from the White House to launch any political investigations.

Trump slammed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., as "a highly overrated person" and said he would be happy to have a Senate trial, although he emphasized, he didn't really care one way or the other.
The president went on to defend his brief suspension of foreign aid to Ukraine this year -- which Democrats have claimed was an attempt to pressure Ukraine into investigating Joe Biden -- by asking why other countries did not provide anything near the level of foreign aid that the U.S. regularly provided: "Why is it always the United States? Nobody ever covers that, but I think it's a big factor."

The president also said he had a strong relationship with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, who has signaled he might soon give Trump a Christmas present in the form of renewed missile tests.

"I hope his Christmas present is a beautiful vase," Trump said. "Look, he likes me, I like him. We get along. He's representing his country, I'm representing my country, we have to do what we have to do. But, he did sign a contract, he did sign an agreement talking about denuclearization."

Trump didn't disclose his New Year's resolution, though -- saying he thought those should generally be kept private.

"Happy New Year," Trump said. "We're gonna have a great year."

A U.S. official told Fox News earlier in the day that "Iraqi security forces did participate" in protecting the embassy — and Trump made clear he expected Iraq to secure U.S. personnel.

“[W]e expect Iraq to use its forces to protect the Embassy, and so notified!” Trump wrote in a Tuesday afternoon tweet blaming Iran. He also spoke with Iraqi Prime Minister Adil Abdul-Mahdi, stressing again the need to protect U.S. facilities in Iraq.

Trump explicitly warned Iran on Twitter that the country "will pay a very BIG PRICE!" after the embassy attack. "Iran will be held fully responsible for lives lost, or damage incurred, at any of our facilities," he wrote. "They will pay a very BIG PRICE! This is not a Warning, it is a Threat. Happy New Year!"

Militants smashed a main door at the embassy and set fire to a reception area in one of the worst attacks on the embassy in recent years. Fox News has learned more than 100 Marines have arrived at the embassy to bolster security.

Additionally, the U.S. Army’s 82nd Airborne Division’s alert brigade has been issued orders to deploy rapidly to Kuwait amid the unrest in Baghdad, three U.S. defense officials told Fox News. At least 500 paratroopers already were making their way to Kuwait, Fox News was told.

The alert brigade of roughly 4,000 paratroopers, known as the DRB—the Deployment Ready Brigade -- has been told to pack their bags for a possible deployment in the days ahead. Within that alert brigade, three rifle battalions had a certain alert sequence, 18 hours, 36 hours and 54 hours for the third. The entire brigade had a 96-hour alert window to deploy.

Some of the paratroopers already have left their base in Fort Bragg, N.C., to fly overseas in Air Force C-17 cargo planes, according to officials. The U.S. Army, as a matter of course, has kept an alert brigade of roughly 4,000 paratroopers in the 82nd Airborne for crisis response. Roughly 5,000 U.S. troops had been deployed to Iraq, among the roughly 60,000 U.S. troops deployed to the entire region. The Pentagon has added some 14,000 since May as the threat from Iran increased, officials said.

The aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman has been in the Gulf of Oman, along with a strike group armed with hundreds of Tomahawk cruise missiles, in addition to the dozens of strike aircraft aboard Truman.
The crowd attacked the embassy following funerals for 25 Iranian-backed fighters killed in U.S. airstrikes Sunday in Iraq and Syria - -retribution for an American defense contractor killed in Iraq Friday, according to U.S. defense officials.

A U.S. Apache helicopter gunship also flew over the embassy and dropped flares in a “show of force,” attempting to disperse the crowd.

Defense Secretary Mark Esper later confirmed additional forces were being sent, as the military released images of those forces deploying from Kuwait.
