15 GOP Senators Who Caved and Voted ‘Yes’ on Gun Control

Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)

Fifteen Republican senators caved Thursday night and voted “yes” on the gun control package Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) worked with Democrats to create.

Cornyn’s gun control bill expands background checks for some gun buyers, uses taxpayer money to incentivize states to enact red flag laws, and broadens the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) prohibited purchasers list by using domestic violence statutes to cover dating relationships.

It also heightens punishments for gun crimes that had nothing to do with Uvalde, Buffalo, Parkland, Las Vegas, Orlando, or Sandy Hook.

CBS News reported that the legislation passed Thursday night by a vote of 65-33.

Here are the 15 Republican Senators who caved and voted for the new gun controls:

Sen. Roy Blunt (R-MO)
Sen. Richard Burr (R-NC)
Sen. Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV)
Sen. Bill Cassidy (R-LA)
Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME)
Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX)
Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA)
Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC)
Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-KY)
Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
Sen. Rob Portman (R-OH)
Sen. Mitt Romney (R-UT)
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC)
Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA)
Sen. Todd Young (R-IN)

The gun control was opposed by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and Gun Owners of America.

The NRA said, “This legislation can be abused to restrict lawful gun purchases, infringe upon the rights of law-abiding Americans, & use fed dollars to fund gun control measures being adopted by state & local politicians.”
As the bill was being negotiated, former President Donald Trump warned that Cornyn was helping “radical left Democrats” secure gun control.

Breitbart News spoke with Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) Thursday about the Supreme Court’s pro-Second Amendment decision. She contrasted the good news from the court with the bad news from the Senate. “All this is taking place in the Supreme Court while we have Republicans in the Senate who are caving on Second Amendment rights,” she observed.

Trump Calls for New GOP Senate Leader 'Immediately'

Image

The long-running feud between former President Donald Trump and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has been simmering for years, but it is starting to reach a boil.

Not only have the midterm primary results been decidedly in Trump's favor vs. McConnell candidates, but now Trump wants "a new Republican leader in the Senate to be picked immediately," he wrote in a pointed Save America PAC statement posted Wednesday to Truth Social.

https://truthsocial.com/@realDonaldTrum ... 3911466699

"The Democrats have Mitch McConnell and his lovely wife, Elaine 'Coco' Chao, over a barrel," the statement began. "He and she will never be prosecuted, as per the last paragraphs of this story, as long as he continues to give the radical left the trillions and trillions of dollars that they constantly demand."

Trump has long rebuked McConnell's weakness in standing up to Senate Democrats' spending and legislative agenda; but with the midterms just a few months away, Trump is now calling for new Republican leadership in the Senate.

"He was afraid to use the 'debt ceiling card' in order to stop the most expensive waste of money in our country's history, to be spent on the Green New Deal, which will only cause one thing, a Depression," Trump's statement trashing McConnell continued. "These expenditures are something our country can never recover from.

"Mitch McConnell is not an opposition leader. He is a pawn for the Democrats to get whatever they want. He is afraid of them, and will not do what has to be done. A new Republican Leader in the Senate should be picked immediately!"

The Federalist story referenced above is headlined: "Trump Is Right. Mitch McConnell And Elaine Chao Spent Decades Getting 'Rich On China.'"

The story alleges a "corruption," "influence" and grifting scheme on the behalf of Chao's shipping company with China.

Chao was Trump's Transportation Secretary until she resigned after the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6.

The report from The Federalist stated:

"In 2021, months after she resigned from the Trump administration, the Office of Inspector General for the Department of Transportation released a report confirming that Chao 'used her official position and taxpayer resources for the benefit of herself and her family.'

"Evidence of wrongdoing in the OIG report was communicated in a criminal referral to the Department of Justice U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia and the DOJ Public Integrity Section, but none of the agencies decided to open an investigation."

Paul Ryan: Donald Trump Will Not Be the Republican Nominee in 2024

Breitbart

Trump: RINOs are sick in the head!

Former Speaker of the House Paul Ryan (R-WI) said during an interview that aired Thursday that former President Donald Trump will not be the Republican party’s presidential nominee in 2024.

Ryan, a Fox News board member, claimed that Trump, who received more votes than any incumbent president in history, has an electability problem–a perspective Fox is promoting.

“Trump’s unelectability will be palpable by then,” Ryan said during an interview with Teneo, a consulting firm where he serves as vice chairman.

“We all know that he’s so much more likely to lose the White House than anybody else running for president on our side of the aisle, so why would we want to go with that?” Ryan added.

However, Ryan’s view on Trump is inconsistent with recent polls that show him leading over President Joe Biden in a hypothetical 2020 election rematch.

Ryan claimed that Trump is only the de facto leader of the GOP because “everybody’s afraid of him.”

“The only reason he stays where he is is because everybody’s afraid of him. They’re afraid of him going after them, hurting their own ambition,” Ryan said.

https://twitter.com/i/status/1580978323483942913

Ryan also claimed that other Republican politicians would have better chances of defeating a Democrat in 2024.

“But as soon as you get the herd mentality going, it’s unstoppable. So I think the fact that he pulls so much poorer than anybody else running for president as a Republican against a Democrat is enough right there. He’s gonna know this,” Ryan said.

However, according to multiple polls, Trump is the clear frontrunner in a potential 2024 Republican primary field.

Ryan reportedly listed Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R), Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin (R), and Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC) as his top three picks for 2024.

“And so whether he runs or not, I don’t really know if it matters; he’s not going to be the nominee, I don’t think,” Ryan continued.

Ryan warned the Democrats would use Trump as a weapon against Republicans.

“He’s a cudgel against us, especially in our swing districts,” Ryan said.

Ryan, who served as House Speaker during Trump’s first two years in office, has long been at odds with the former President. Ryan has consistently called on the GOP to abandon Trump since he left politics in 2018.

Ryan reportedly “found himself sobbing,” after the January 6 Capitol Riots, according to a new book from journalist Mark Leibovich.

Trump has continually hinted that he will run for a second term in 2024, but he has not officially announced his candidacy.

The Fox News article on this matter does not mention that Ryan is a Fox Corporation board member.
